IFA Group Training

Intermediate First Aid is a more advanced workplace training program that builds on the fundamentals of Basic First Aid (OFA Level 1). This course is designed for employees who are required to take on a greater level of responsibility when responding to workplace injuries and medical emergencies.

Participants will learn how to assess and manage a wider range of injuries and illnesses, provide effective care in workplace settings, and support an injured worker until professional medical help arrives.

Course Overview

Total instructional time: 14 hours
Includes 7 hours of hands-on practical skill demonstration

Participants are required by WorkSafeBC to be trained on the specific make and model of AED used in their workplace.

What’s Covered

  • CPR and AED use
  • Treatment of minor wounds and injuries
  • Airway, breathing, and circulatory emergencies
  • Workplace emergency response procedures
  • Completion of records and incident reports
  • What to do until paramedics arrive

This course does not include airway management or oxygen administration.

Certification & Evaluation

To successfully complete the course, participants must:

  • Attend 100% of the course
  • Demonstrate all required critical skills
  • Achieve a minimum 70% pass mark on a 66-question multiple choice exam

Upon successful completion, participants will receive an Intermediate First Aid certificate valid for 3 years.

Requirements

  • No prerequisites
  • Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants

Facility Requirements
Minimum of 500 sq ft of clear floor space is required for group training

Transportation Endorsement (TE)

This is an add-on to the first aid course teaching participants how to transport an injured worker to medical aid. The course is approximately 7 hours in duration.

A current Intermediate First Aid (IFA) or higher level certificate is a prerequisite for this course.

Typically IFAand TE courses will be booked in conjunction if TE is required.
